I'm Albert — an underwriter and deal-maker based in Nairobi, working across the intersections most people avoid: sovereign risk, agricultural supply chains, and the ventures that actually feed a continent.

Since 2006 I've underwritten political and credit risk for banks, DFIs, and exporters across Africa at ATIDI — the kind of deals that move grain, fertilizer, power, and dollars when ordinary insurance markets won't look at the map. Before that, five years as an Economist at the Central Bank of Tanzania, where I designed the country's SME Credit Guarantee Scheme. I sit on the board of the International Trade and Forfaiting Association (ITFA). In parallel, I build: Muleba Coffee and a ranching venture in Kagera.

Finance, to me, is only interesting when it touches something real.

Three practices.
One thesis.

01

Credit & Political-Risk Underwriting

Structuring cover for banks, exporters, and investors in frontier and emerging markets — sovereign non-payment, expropriation, and trade disruption.

  • Sovereign & sub-sovereign
  • Bank lending & guarantees
  • Single-obligor & portfolio cover
02

Structured Trade & Investment

Designing the facilities that move soft commodities, inputs, and capital across borders — revolvers, pre-export, receivables, and blended instruments.

  • Structured commodity finance
  • Cross-border receivables
  • Risk participation & syndication
03

Development Finance & Advisory

Working with DFIs, multilaterals, and founders on bankable deals that crowd in private capital — concessional structures and blended finance.

  • DFI deal origination
  • Blended-finance design
  • Agri & SME capital strategy

Notes from the field desk.

Occasional essays on African finance, travel, and what I learn between a term sheet and a coffee harvest — published on Medium.

Got a deal,
a draft, or a question?

I take on a small number of advisory engagements each year — usually structured-finance mandates, DFI-facing deals, or African agri & impact ventures. I also read cold emails.
